Rongali Bihu 2025 Newcastle!

Welcome to the vibrant celebration of Rongali Bihu in Newcastle! Join us at John Spence Community High School for a day filled with traditional Assamese music, dance, and delicious food. Immerse yourself in the rich culture of Assam as we mark the beginning of the Assamese New Year. Whether you’re a seasoned Bihu enthusiast or new to the festivities, this event promises a memorable experience. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate Bihu here in Newcastle!
Contribution
Adult £30 | Youth (12-18 yrs) & Student £20 | Family Adults x 2, Child X 1 £65/ Adults x 2, Child X 2 £75 (until 31.03.25, then rates go up by £5).
You will receive instructions on paying after registering for the event.
NB: Our charity partner is ACCBNE (registered No. 1006666), which provides us with the website and event logistics. Your payment will be collected in the charity’s account. If there is a surplus from the event/any additional voluntary contributions will go to good causes in Assam. We will publish the account on this website after the event.

Programme
We are getting ready to celebrate the joyous occasion of the conferral of classical status to the Axomiya language by bringing a unique set of performances:

Sanjay Taribagil is a Marathi singer based in Newcastle. He has fallen in love with our Axomiya language and is getting ready to sing some Bihu songs on the day. Come and listen to his “Phul Phulise Boxontor”…you will love it!

Biswajit Choudhury is a trained Bengali singer with a melodious voice who spent some of his childhood in Assam. He will sing “Hiya Diya Nia” and other famous Assamese songs.

Craig Nunn is a multi-talented young English doctor who regularly sings in a Newcastle Choir group. You won’t want to miss his rendition of “Manuhe Manuhor Baabe” and a few others.

Korobi is a Bengali girl who was born in Assam. She can speak fluent Assamese and dance the Bihu dance exceptionally well. She will perform the famous Bihu song “Khitik Khitik Kori”.

Throw yourself into the electric atmosphere of Newcastle, with its buzzing City vibes, a stunning Quayside and its large host of unique bars and restaurants. Then immerse yourself in Tynemouth, a coastal town on the mouth of the River Tyne just 8 mi of the City. The medieval Priory and Castle stand on a headland overlooking both the mouth of the river and the North Sea. The John Spence Community High School, the venue of the Rongali Bihu 2025, is within a short driving distance.
